Speaker Copyright License and Release

Dear Metropolis BC Speaker,

Metropolis British Columbia is a Centre of Excellence for Research on Immigration and Diversity located at University of British Columbia ("UBC") and Simon Fraser University ("SFU")  (Metropolis British Columbia, UBC and SFU collectively referred to as "Metropolis BC").  Metropolis BC would like to create a video recording of your presentation at an upcoming event (the "Event") to be hosted by Metropolis BC, and wishes to post such video recording, and any related written materials (collectively, the "Materials") online on our website (the "Website") located at or any other website under Metropolis BC's control.   

We confirm that you will maintain ownership rights in all copyrights in the Materials and that they will not be used in any way by Metropolis BC other than what is outlined below, without your written consent.

You hereby grant Metropolis BC a non-exclusive, perpetual, royalty-free, worldwide licence to use, copy, reproduce, display and broadcast the Materials, without charge in any manner at all, for research, academic, educational and all other non-commercial uses, including without limitation, to record your presentation and display and post the Materials on the Website.  Such license includes a right to sublicense use of the Materials to the extent that users of the Website are permitted to make single copies of any document posted on the Website. 

In consideration of Metropolis BC providing you with the opportunity to participate in the Event, the receipt and sufficiency of which is hereby acknowledged, you hereby agree to release Metropolis BC, UBC, SFU and their respective directors, Board of Governors, officers, employees, faculty, students, agents and affiliates of and from any and all actions, causes of action, claims, demands, damages, proceedings, of any nature or kind howsoever arising out of or related to use by any third party of the Materials.  You acknowledge and agree that Metropolis BC is not liable for any losses or damages, whether direct, indirect, consequential, incidental or special, arising from use by any third party of the Materials.

This represents the entire agreement between the parties with respect to the subject matter herein, and may only be modified by a written document signed by yourself and Metropolis BC.  No agency, partnership or joint venture shall be created by this agreement.  This agreement shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Province of British Columbia, Canada, without regard to its conflicts of laws rules.  The parties hereby attorn to the exclusive jurisdiction of the Supreme Court of British Columbia.
